Why my HSA balance isn't syncing

If your HSA balance on the Dashboard looks stale, here's what to check.

1. Hit the Sync button

The Dashboard has a Sync button next to your HSA balance. Click it to force a fresh pull from Plaid. If your balance updates, you're good — Plaid just hadn't refreshed automatically yet.

2. Check for a re-authenticate prompt

Plaid connections expire when you change your bank password, when your bank rotates its security tokens, or sometimes for no reason at all. If we can no longer pull data, you'll see a Re-authenticate prompt next to the account on the Connections page.

Click it, sign back in via Plaid, and the connection resumes.

3. Bank outage

Sometimes your bank's connection to Plaid is down. If clicking Sync shows an error like "couldn't connect to your bank," wait an hour or two and try again. These outages are usually short.

4. Pending vs. posted

Some HSA providers report only posted transactions, not pending ones. If you contributed yesterday and the contribution hasn't posted yet, it won't show up. Wait for it to post.

5. Account was disconnected

Check the Connections page. If the account isn't listed, someone (you, or maybe Plaid's auto-cleanup) disconnected it. Re-connect it from scratch.

6. The balance is right, but transactions are missing

Balance and transactions sync separately. If your balance is up to date but you're missing transactions:

  • It can take a few hours for new transactions to flow from your bank → Plaid → Reimbursable.
  • Some HSA providers only show transactions for accounts that had activity in the last 24 months.
  • If you connected recently, give it a day for the first full sync to complete.

Still stuck?

Contact support — drop us a line through the Help & Support menu and we'll dig in. Useful info to include:

  • Which bank/HSA provider
  • When you connected
  • What you're seeing (stale balance? missing transactions? error message?)

Manual workaround

While we troubleshoot, you can update your balance manually on the Connections page so your Dashboard numbers stay accurate.
