Connecting your HSA bank account
Connecting your HSA lets us pull your current balance and surface transactions that look like medical expenses, so you don't have to enter every receipt by hand.
How to connect
- Go to Connections from the account menu (or use the "Connect Account" button on your Dashboard).
- Click Connect a bank account.
- Search for your HSA provider (Fidelity, HSA Bank, Lively, HealthEquity, etc.).
- Sign in with your bank credentials inside the secure Plaid window.
- Pick the account(s) you want to link — usually just your HSA.
Once connected, your balance shows up on the Dashboard. We'll start syncing transactions in the background.
What we pull
- Account balance — current and available
- Transactions — recent transaction history (we look back ~24 months on first sync)
- Account metadata — name, type, last 4 digits
We do not see your full account number, your routing number, or your password. Plaid handles authentication and gives us a read-only token.
What we do with transactions
Our AI looks at each transaction and flags ones that look like medical expenses (CVS, your doctor's office, hospitals, dental offices, etc.). Those get queued in Review Transactions for you to confirm or reject. Confirmed transactions become expenses in your ledger.
My HSA isn't in the list
If Plaid doesn't support your HSA provider, you have two options:
- Add a manual account instead. Go to Connections → Add manual account. You can set the name, current balance, and update it whenever you want. You won't get auto-import of transactions, but you'll still see your balance on the dashboard.
- Email us and tell us your provider — Plaid is constantly adding institutions, and we can sometimes help.
Premium-only
Plaid bank linking is a Premium feature ($5/mo or $50/yr). On the free plan, you can use manual accounts to track your HSA balance.
