Adding a manual HSA account

If your HSA provider isn't supported by Plaid (or you're on the free plan), you can still track your balance by adding a manual account.

How to add a manual account

  1. Go to Connections from the account menu.
  2. Click Add manual account.
  3. Fill in:
  • Account name (e.g., "Fidelity HSA")
  • Account type (HSA, FSA, IRA)
  • Current balance
  1. Save.

Your manual account shows up on the Dashboard alongside any Plaid-linked accounts.

Updating the balance

Manual accounts don't auto-sync — they show whatever balance you last entered. To update:

  1. Go to Connections.
  2. Click the manual account.
  3. Edit the balance and save.

We recommend updating the balance once a month or after any significant contribution or withdrawal so your dashboard math stays accurate.

What manual accounts can't do

  • No transaction import — you'll need to log expenses manually (or via receipt scan).
  • No real-time balance — what you typed is what shows.

If your provider is supported by Plaid (and you're on Premium), connecting via Plaid is much less work. Most major HSA providers — Fidelity, HSA Bank, Lively, HealthEquity, Optum Bank — are supported. Try Plaid first; fall back to manual only if needed.

Why have a balance at all?

Reimbursable's Dashboard math relies on knowing your HSA balance to calculate things like:

  • How much tax-free money is sitting there
  • Total potential reimbursement vs. what you've actually pulled
  • Years of tax-deferred growth in the HSA Calculator

If you skip the balance entirely, expense tracking still works fine — you just lose the dashboard summary view.

Multiple accounts

Add as many manual accounts as you have. People often have an HSA from their current employer and one from a prior employer they haven't rolled over yet. Track both.
